The Office of Diversity, Inclusion & Outreach (DIO) provides advising and support for enrichment programs that support current students. Students come to weekly drop-in hours for supportive advising while in medical school and discuss a variety of topics related to inclusion and diversity. We support enrichment programs such as the annual Cultural Awareness Week, Minority Health Conference, Secrets of Success, and Orientation Week programs that are designed to increase students’ awareness of health care disparities and diversity issues in medicine. We co-lead the Prologue to Medicine program that prepares newly admitted students with the skills and knowledge to succeed in medical school. The Office of Diversity, Inclusion & Outreach also provides opportunities for current students to reach out to pre-medical student communities to encourage them to pursue careers in medicine and health care. We work closely with student organizations including SNMA, LMSA, MEDGLO, APAMSA, and AMA to promote programs in support of inclusion and diversity.
