The Cardiovascular Theme has a foundation deeply rooted in the long and proud history of research excellence at UCLA. We encourage your feedback and inquiries as you get to know the Cardiovascular Theme and invite you to be a part of the UCLA mission to transform cardiovascular health.
Yibin Wang, PhD
Cardiovascular Theme Chair
Professor of Anesthesiology, Medicine & Physiology
Dr. Wang’s research mainly focuses on genetic and molecular mechanisms of heart failure and metabolic disorders. His lab has made major advances in uncovering stress-signaling mechanisms in the pathogenesis of heart failure, and revealed functional importance amino acids catabolism in heart failure and metabolic disorders. In addition, his lab reported novel regulatory mechanisms in cardiac transcriptome reprogramming involving RNA splicing regulation and non-coding RNA mediated epigenetic modulation.
James N Weiss, MD
Cardiovascular Theme Co-Chair
Chizuko and Nobuyuki Kawata Chair in Cardiology
Dr. James Weiss focuses his research on ion channel biophysics, cardiac electrophysiology, arrhythmias, and ischemia and mitochondrial biology. He leads an interdisciplinary group combining mathematical and experimental biology. He holds memberships in numerous professional organizations, including the American Heart Association, American College of Cardiology, the Heart Rhythm Society, the Biophysical Society, the American Society of Clinical Investigation, the Association of University Cardiologists.
