UCLA Pre-Medical/Pre-Dental Enrichment Program Students (UCLA PREP)
Two pre-medicals and one post-baccalaureate program are offered by the David Geffen School of Medicine. The programs are held annually to prepare promising disadvantaged students for professional training and careers in medicine and dentistry.
Medical and dental faculty, science professors, advisors, admissions officers and current medical/dental students work with participants in small group settings.
In addition to didactic work, participants are assigned to observe practicing physicians, dentists and researchers performing the typical functions of their professions. Special focus is directed towards the provision of care in health professional shortage areas and medically underserved areas/populations in California.
Funding for these programs is provided by the University of California Academic Preparation & Educational Partnership, David Geffen School of Medicine.
The UCLA Pre-medical/Pre-dental Enrichment Program (UCLA PREP) is a six-week intensive nonresidential summer program that aims to provide promising pre-medical and pre-dental students from educationally and financially disadvantaged backgrounds, with the means of strengthening their ability and readiness to study medicine and/or dentistry.
The UCLA Summer Medical and Dental Education Program (UCLA SMDEP) is a six week summer enrichment program targeting educationally and financially disadvantaged community college students while also accepting a number of 4-year college students.
The UCLA Re-Application Program (UCLA RAP) is an eleven-month post-baccalaureate program offered by the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, designed to assist promising students from disadvantaged backgrounds who were previously unsuccessful in gaining admission to a U.S. medical school.
