Since becoming dean in July 2016, Dr. Kelsey Martin has filled five chair positions after nationwide searches for the most accomplished, most visionary leaders in their respective fields.
Three of those have been women from within UCLA:

Isla P. Garraway, MD, PhD
Isla Garraway, MD, PhD, UCLA Urology associate professor, received a 2017 PCF Challenge Award from the Prostate Cancer Foundation to support her group’s prostate cancer research. Dr. Garraway is the Principal Investigator of a basic science laboratory in the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center. Her current projects are focused on human prostate stem cells and prostate tumor-initiating cells, as well as development of human prostate tumor models. Specifically, Dr. Garraway is developing ways to isolate specific stem cells from patients with prostate cancer. View video to learn more.

Announced November 17, 2017, the honor of becoming Cardiologist of the Year from the California Chapter of the American College of Cardiology (CA ACC) is bestowed upon Dr. Karol Watson. She is Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, Co-Director fo the UCLA Program in Preventive Cardiology, Director of the UCLA Barbra Streisand Women's Heart Health Program and inaugural recipient of the John Mazziotta, M.D., Ph.D. Term Chair in Medicine. The American Medical Women's Association (AMWA) is local, national and international organization of over 10,000 students and physicians dedicated to empowering women to lead in the advancement of health for all through leadership, advocacy, education, expertise, community organization, mentoring and strategic alliances.
At the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, AMWA brings together the perspectives of medical students and faculty mentors to advocate for improved health access, women's health research, women's health education, violence prevention, and increased opportunities for all medical education, regardless of gender, race, socioeconomic status or sexual orientation.
