Throughout fiscal year 2021, the DGSOM administration largely worked remotely which continued to drive process improvement and creative approaches to team work and community building. I also want to recognize that the remote work environment also posed unique challenges and I am deeply grateful for the commitment of our DGSOM staff and their tireless efforts to achieve the missions of the DGSOM.
The decision to implement flexwork in the DGSOM was aligned with UCLA’s decision to implement flexwork on a longer-term basis. While this means that we are entering yet another period of adaptation and innovation, it is exciting that we are able to offer our staff this opportunity, as it should be an important tool for retaining staff who would otherwise need to spend considerable commuting time and expense to come to work on a daily basis. Having this option for hard-to-fill positions will support the DGSOM’s needs in the competitive labor market.

At the end of fiscal year 2021, after more than a year of remote work, the DGSOM started preparing to return to work on premise and implement a school-wide flexwork strategy.
