I currently serve as teaching faculty in the Educators for Excellence program as well as directing point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) education at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. I also serve as Director of Ultrasound in the Department of Emergency Medicine and Co-Director of the Emergency and Clinical Ultrasound Fellowship. My interests include helping medical students and residents to develop into confident and expert clinicians using POCUS, as well as medical education and clinical research to assess the value of POCUS in improving patient care.
I am from the San Gabriel Valley just east of Los Angeles, but moved away from Southern California for roughly a decade. First, I lived in New Orleans for a year while attending graduate school, then served in the Peace Corps in The Gambia in West Africa for three years, followed by medical school in Sacramento, and residency in Atlanta. I returned to SoCal to complete a fellowship at UC Irvine, and started my position at Olive View-UCLA in 2012. Outside of DGSOM, I enjoy spending time with my family and exploring trails around Los Angeles with our dog Susie, as well as woodworking and lap swimming.
