Sixteen current David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA researchers are among the most influential scientists worldwide in their respective fields, according to an annual list of highly cited researchers.

The compilation by Clarivate Analytics includes more than 3,300 researchers who have published a high number of papers that rank in the top 1 percent most cited in their respective fields from 2005-2015.

“Such consistent production of highly cited reports indicates that the work of these researchers has been repeatedly judged by their peers to be of notable significance and utility,” the analytics company said in a white paper.

Antoni Ribas, a medical oncologist who directs the UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center’s tumor immunology program, was among only 21 scientists worldwide whose research over a recent two-year period earned an unusually high number of citations, the company said.

“I’m proud of David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA researchers, who are helping to advance patient care through their discoveries about the human body, application of this knowledge to clinical care and collaboration with other clinicians and scientists at UCLA, across the county and around the world,” said Dr. Kelsey Martin, dean of the medical school.
