Welcome to the inaugural edition of Heart to Heart, the newsletter representing UCLA’s new cardiovascular research initiative. The David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA has identified six research priorities, including cardiovascular medicine, cancer, regeneration and repair, immunology, metabolism, and neuroscience. These themes are the building blocks of a new era in UCLA Health Sciences.
The new Cardiovascular Theme has a foundation deeply rooted in the long and proud history of research excellence at UCLA. Energized by The Centennial Campaign for UCLA and the exciting opportunities provided by substantial state-of-the-art new research space in the renovated South Tower of the Center for Health Sciences, the Cardiovascular Theme will leverage UCLA’s collective strengths in cardiovascular medicine, fostering new synergies and supporting team-based clinical care and science. Working together will yield more breakthroughs in science and accelerate their translation into lifesaving therapies. Our goal in cardiovascular medicine is to achieve transformative discoveries, such as understanding the genetic basis of heart failure and developing procedures and treatments to rebuild healthy blood vessels, nerves, and tissues.
