The shared values of the DGSOM are expressed in the Cultural North Star, which was developed by members of our community and affirms our abiding commitment to doing what’s right, making things better and being kind. These are the standards to which we hold ourselves, and one another.
We are working to infuse every level of our organization with these principles and building a community around the values is our first step.
Please join Dr. Kelsey Martin for her next Cultural North Star Town Hall. Introductions to the DGSOM community will include our new Vice Dean for Justice, Equity and Diversity Inclusion, Dr. David McIntosh, and our new Cultural North Star Program Lead, Dr. Natalie Perry.
THE BELOW COFFEE WITH THE DEAN SERIES IS CURRENTLY ON HOLD AS IN-PERSON MEETINGS ARE SUSPENDED DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC.
Cultural North Star Series
Format: Each month, I will meet with eight to 10 members of the DGSOM community. Each one-hour conversation will focus on one of the 12 Cultural North Star purpose statements. “Coffee with the Dean” is a platform for ideas, questions and solutions that stimulate thoughtful, positive discussion around the selected purpose statement.
Participation: To participate, please fill out a brief registration form indicating which session you’re most interested in attending. Of those who register, 10 will be randomly selected to attend each session(s). If selected, you will be notified no later than two weeks prior to the scheduled date.

The David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA kicked off its first annual Cultural North Star Day event on November 1, 2019, in honor of the medical school's inauguration on Friday, November 2, 1951. Cultural North Star Day is a celebration of the DGSOM community, our commitment to our mission and each other, and the exciting possibilities that lie ahead when we come together. Dr. Kelsey Martin, Dean of the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, presided over the festivities, which included a Cultural North Star Award Ceremony, free taco bars, live music by Angel Town Combo, a Cultural North Star photobooth and a historical DGSOM pop-up.
The first 400 guests also received limited-edition Cultural North Star giveaways. This free event was open to DGSOM staff, faculty, trainees and students. For event inquiries, please contact email@example.com.
The annual Family Picnic provides an opportunity for DGSOM faculty, residents, fellows and post-docs to enjoy a family-friendly afternoon with their colleagues, spouses and children. This year, the event will also feature Cultural North Star giveaways.
