ERAS Timeline for Residency Applicants
AAMC ERAS FREIDA NRMP USMLE
We will walk you through the application, interviewing, and ranking processes step-by-step throughout the year. We will have a series of meetings for your class to discuss fourth year scheduling, an introduction to the Colleges, how to request letters of recommendation, evaluations, and the MSPE (dean’s letter).
We send regular updates and reminders about the upcoming meetings as the dates approach as well as weekly emails entitled, "Residency Updates from the SAO" which include the latest information, strategies, events, and announcements.
ERAS Tokens will be issued in early June.
Jason Bergschneider is your primary staff contact throughout the residency application process, along with your College Chairs, mentors, and Student Affairs Deans.
The MSPE is a letter of evaluation (not a letter of recommendation) intended to summarize a student’s academic and professional performance throughout medical school. Please visit the DGSOM Medical Student Performance Evaluation Policy for more details.
The MSPE Questionnaire is the first step in drafting your MSPE. The MSPE Questionnaire will be shared with your assistant dean and the student affairs deans in order to draft strong noteworthy characteristics, as well as to provide guidance and advising as you begin the residency application process. Once the MSPE Questionnaires are completed, you will meet first with your assistant dean and then with either Dr. Miller or Dr. Calmes to finalize the noteworthy characteristics.
In the event that you wish to have a different dean write your MSPE or Noteworthy Characteristics, please communicate directly with Jason Bergschneider.
MSPE Questionnaire for the Class of 2021 - email link sent (Qualtrics). Deadline to complete is Monday, April 6.
Senior Scholarship Day
The culmination of the College experience (and one of the final requirements to graduate) is Senior Scholarship Day held on the Thursday before match day. Shamar Jones coordinates this event and works with seniors and the College Chairs throughout the year in preparation. Each year, a few exceptional senior projects are selected to present at the oral plenary session.
Match Day Celebration
At 9:00AM on the third Friday in March, envelopes are opened across the nation revealing where each senior will pursue their residency training. This exciting event is open to friends and family to attend. Learn more about Match Day at the David Geffen School of Medicine.
