2019 - 2020 Student HOST Request Form (submit your form)
HOST FAQs for Students
- What is the HOST Program?
- HOST stands for Help Our Students Travel.
-
- The program helps alleviate some of the financial burden students face while interviewing for residency by matching them with medical school alumni HOSTs that provide free lodging in the vicinity of their residency interview sites.
- Who are the hosts?
- All hosts are David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA alumni who have volunteered to participate in the program. They have studied at the medical school as an undergraduate medical student, PhD student, resident, and/or fellow.
- Where are hosts available?
- Hosts are available primarily in San Francisco, Boston, and the New York Tri-State Area. However, there are some hosts located in other major metropolitan areas who have volunteered with the program.
- How do I sign up to utilize the HOST Program?
- Once you have your interview dates, fill out the HOST Request Form (see link above) to let us know when and where you will be traveling. The earlier you submit your request, the more likely we are to find a host who may be able to accommodate your residency interview travel plans.
- How many times can I use the HOST Program?
- You may request a host as often as needed. The AAO will make as many host connections as possible. Please complete the form for each trip where you would like to be connected with a host.
- What if my plans change and I have to cancel?
- We understand other interviews may arise, and/or you may decide to cancel an interview or a host visit. Please be respectful of the host’s time and schedule. Let them know immediately if your plans have changed. Also, please inform the AAO of the change(s).
- What can I expect from the hosts?
- We simply ask the alumni to provide overnight accommodations in their home. That said, many go above and beyond by offering transportation to and from interviews and airports, home-cooked meals, guided tours of the area, and invaluable professional insight on the regional medical community. Every HOST experience will be different, and we promise that you will benefit every time you choose to use the program.
