This program gives medical students the opportunity to learn about residency programs at UCLA, meet residents and faculty of historically underrepresented backgrounds, and engage with leadership from multiple departments.
The program will include a welcome from the Offices of Graduate Medical Education and Equity and Diversity Inclusion, as well as sessions navigating the residency application process, a Program Director panel, sharing what programs look for in a candidate and how to prepare yourself to be the best candidate possible. We will also have a networking lunch with medical students and UCLA residents representing a variety of specialties, and a residents’ panel full of gems for succeeding in the residency. We will also have breakout sessions for both pre-clinical and clinical medical students, including mock interviews with personal statement review, and hands on workshops for clinical skills needed for clerkships.
Please check back in late May for additional details.
Registration will open Mid-July 2020
Feedback from participants who attended the Inaugural 2019 Road to Residency program, when asked:
What about the program they found most valuable:
|Hearing about the next step in our training from people currently in those positions who I could directly relate to. As a URM in medicine, I constantly feel the effects of imposter syndrome, but for the first time in a long time I felt like I truly belonged. I really appreciated the panelist stories regarding URM specific struggles faced in residency.|
|• The apparent institutional support for minority residents. Really made me think about where I would be most happy as a resident.||• Everything! From the PD panel to the resident panel, and the workshop on residency applications. I really appreciated this insight.|
