The Women’s Empowerment Brunch is a celebration of Black women in medicine. The event is an exciting opportunity for women in medicine (pre-med students, medical students and physicians/faculty) to identify with like-minded individuals, to empower others, and to facilitate open and honest conversations that will promote personal and professional growth and health advocacy.
Presented by the UCLA/CDU Chapter of the Student National Medical Association
“It’s important to see women from all levels of their educational journey in one room, especially for any pre-med students who may feel less supported on their campus. They get to see women in front of them who have made it and learn from them. Distinguished MDs come and shed light on how to have the confidence to persevere despite any trials and tribulations. Everyone can network and feel encouraged to continue on their journey.”
- Cléa Marsh, Medical Student DGSOM/DREW, Class of 2021
- Dr. Valerie Green-Amos, a family medicine physician and keynote speaker
“The idea is really to empower young physicians to be focused on their opportunities in their careers and in their personal lives. The title of my speech is ‘Focus and Fearlessness,’ and I’m going to talk about the path I’ve had through medicine and in my life. I would tell every student to hang in there because it’s worth it. Absolutely. Becoming a physician was the best choice I ever made as far as my career, and certainly for my life, as it has been tremendous. I’m happy to be here promoting wellness and the acclimation of young women in their career path towards medicine.”
