Originally from Ottawa, ON, Jonathan graduated from Queen’s University with a bachelor's degree in Life Sciences in 2021. During his academic career, he has received numerous awards and scholarships including the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma, Principal’s Scholarship, Dean’s Honours List with Distinction, Queen’s Appeal Undergraduate Scholarship, and a Fulbright Killam Fellowship. As well, during his time as an undergraduate student, he involved himself in both clinical and laboratory research at the Ottawa Heart Institute, volunteered at the emergency department of the Ottawa Hospital, and also worked at a psychotherapy clinic which fostered his interest in healthcare. He is also interested in combating food insecurity and has involved himself in multiple initiatives including volunteering at the Dalhousie Food Bank, Queen’s Soul Food, as well as co-founding Harvest's Bowl and Endogen Learning, two non-profit organizations which aim to raise money and provide fresh produce to families in need. He is excited to join the genetic counseling profession at UCLA and looks forward to researching and implementing new ways to increase cultural competence amongst current and future practitioners and exploring novel ways to tackle systemic inequities in health. During his spare time, he enjoys going to the gym, enjoying the outdoors, and spending time with family and friends.
