James Heaysung Lee, MD, FAAP
Pediatrics Clerkship Site Director; Pediatrics Residency Associate Program Director and Continuity Clinic Director
I love following learners at all levels of training. From the medical school side, my main roles are being part of the Educators for Excellence group that is deeply involved in the education of the first-year medical students. I am also a Site Director for the Pediatric Clerkship. On the Pediatric Residency side, I am the Associate Program Director and Continuity Clinic Director for the training program. My interests include medical education and following the longitudinal growth of learners throughout the medical school and residency process. I love to mentor my advisees and coach our amazing trainees. Additionally, I am Board President of a non-profit organization called Aeron’s Foundation that works to increase awareness and support families who have suffered through sudden unexpected infant death (SIDS).
My family came over from Korea and I was born in New York. Throughout my life I have lived in the various regions of the US (East Coast, Midwest, West Coast). I have much distance traveled in my life and have managed much adversity throughout my life. My journey to medicine was difficult and I feel fortunate to connect with trainees who have faced a similar path toward their goals and offer coaching and mentorship. Finally, I am part of a dedicated group of faculty members who focus on equity issues (with an emphasis on recruitment) and work to continually improve our holistic review process for the pediatrics residency program.
On a lighter note, I love family, food, sports, and travel. Being Korean, I am genetically programmed to be a Tiger Dad and enjoy Korean dramas/movies/music.
