Lynn K Gordon, MD, PhD is the Senior Associate Dean for Diversity Affairs. The Diversity Affairs office affirms that the core values of diversity, equity, and inclusion are inseparable from the institutional goals of excellence in education, research, patient care, and community engagement.
Dr. Gordon is the Vernon O. Underwood Family Professor of Ophthalmology at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA and Vice-Chair of the Applied Anatomy College at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Dr. Gordon graduated with honors from Stanford University, earned her MD and PhD at Harvard, and completed a residency in ophthalmology and fellowship training in neuro-ophthalmology at UCLA. She has been an active clinician-scientist with a research focus on inflammatory or autoimmune diseases that affect the eye. Her bench and translational research has resulted in multiple patents and more than 100 articles, book chapters, and reviews. In addition to Ophthalmology, she serves on the editorial boards of Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science, the Journal of Neuro-Ophthalmology, and Ocular Inflammation and Immunity.
Dr. Gordon has held leadership positions in several professional organizations including the American Academy of Ophthalmology (Member of Board of Trustees, Vice Chair of the Council), Women in Ophthalmology (Past President), and the California Association of Eye Physicians and Surgeons (Past President), and is past chair of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Group on Women in Medicine and Science. She is an active member of the AAMC Group on Diversity and Inclusion.
Her interest in diversity and faculty development began early in her career. In her current role as senior associate dean for academic diversity she led efforts to create and implement strategic changes to improve efforts related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Her mission is to help individuals find and achieve their goals in an inclusive environment.
