The fellowship requires a departmental plan for the release of 20% of the faculty member's academic time for the period of one year. Participation in the first-year program (MEF 1) is recommended for the second year (MEF 2). In the second year, fellows will learn theories and principles of measurement, explore rigorous research methods in medical education, and engage in a mentored scholarly project related to their curricular innovation. Fellows will be assigned to a faculty mentor to help them develop and implement their research project. The ultimate goal is for each fellow to work towards producing a scholarly product ready for publication in a peer-reviewed journal and/or a presentation at an appropriate professional conference.
The aim of the Fellowship in Medical Education Scholarship (MEF 2) is to prepare fellows to become “teaching scholars” who contribute to the literature and evidence that informs scholarly teaching. MEF 2 is an entry-level educational research fellowship.
