First-year medical students received their white coats on September 9 at Royce Hall, where the David Geffen School of Medicine (DGSOM) at UCLA hosted the annual White Coat Ceremony to welcome 175 students into the medical profession.
Executive Vice Dean and Vice Dean for Education Clarence H. Braddock III, M., MPH, MACP presented the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award to Cedars-Sinai's Vice President and Chief Health Equity Officer Christina Harris, MD, as well as the Excellence in Teaching with Humanism Award, which is created by the DGSOM medical student body to recognize residents and fellows who model exemplary behavior toward medical students and other members of the health care team.
“Your white coat is not just a symbol of healing, but represents the power and privilege you hold to affect change," shared keynote speaker Jennifer Lucero, MD, MA, who is the Associate Dean for Admissions.
Presentation of white coats and the recital of the UCLA Medical Oath followed thereafter.
