I currently serve as one of the Directors of foundations of Practice at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. My interests include medical education at all levels (medical student, resident, fellow, and faculty); as well as curriculum development and the science of teaching.
I grew up in Miami, Florida, my parents were immigrants from Cuba. I grew up speaking Spanish and I am fluent in French and Portuguese. After high school I moved to New York to attend Columbia College and then moved even further north to Connecticut to attend medical school at Yale. I came to Los Angeles for my residency in Ophthalmology and I never left. I completed a fellowship in Neuro-ophthalmology at USC and eventually became the residency program director there. Eight years ago, I made the best decision of my career when I decided to join the faculty at UCLA.
I live in Venice with my husband, who works in the television and movie industry, and our rescue pup, Rango. I enjoy the diversity of cultures, food, and geography that Los Angeles has to offer. When I’m not at DGSOM I love to go hiking, cycling, and enjoying the outdoors with my dog and my husband or exploring new parts of this amazing metropolis – so much good food!
