Phuong-Chi Pham, MD, FASN
Health Sciences Clinical Professor of Medicine
I currently serve as teaching faculty for the Scientific Foundations of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. My interests include medical student, resident, and fellow education.
I came to the US as a boat refugee from Vietnam years past. I first settled in Colorado with my family where I learned my first English phrase “Hello, my name is…” then moved to California after high school. Life as a refugee was difficult at first but I have come to learn over the years that anything is possible in this country as long as there is a fresh idea and a will for its realization. For years after the traumatizing experience of boat escape from Communist Vietnam, I had flashback anxiety every time I saw the ocean, but now I cannot imagine living anywhere without access to a nearby ocean.
I enjoy solving puzzles and simplifying difficult tasks. Outside of work, I enjoy traveling, good eats, and spending time with family. I am fluent in Vietnamese and speak Spanish adequately to communicate major issues with the Spanish-speaking only patient population we serve.
