Overview 

The David Geffen School of Medicine is searching for two faculty members to serve as assistant deans for Faculty Initiatives, a new role in the DGSOM. The ideal candidates will: be committed to ensuring an inclusive experience for all our faculty; have experience developing inclusive initiatives that impact faculty and/or the learning environment; have experience leading teams with diverse opinions and perspectives; have a vision for how these new roles can improve our DGSOM climate. 

Compensation: Salary support up to 25% of TNS, plus benefits, to support your time commitment to this work. Note, that the candidate will be expected to protect 25% of their time for work in this role. Please consider carefully how less clinical or research time may impact your compensation.

Requirements

This will be an internal search, open to UCLA faculty in any series, including affiliate members with UCLA faculty appointments.

Candidate(s) should have the ability to:

  • Liaise with key stakeholders and groups, soliciting input and feedback regularly.
  • Work with the vice dean on strategies, tactics, and initiatives.
  • Contribute to an annual refinement of the Departmental Inclusive Excellence Plans so that it reflects organizational and stakeholder needs, evidenced by data collected throughout the year.
  • Work with department leaders, staff, and physicians to advance Inclusive Excellence-related discussions, education, and plans as they pertain to Faculty Initiatives
  • Develop novel initiatives to address issues impacting our faculty.
  • Collaborate with vice dean for Faculty Affairs; Cultural North Star Lead; and other strategic initiative leaders to align efforts.
  • Support school-wide initiatives (e.g., Restorative Justice Initiative)
  • Contribute to weekly team meetings.
  • Contribute to bi-weekly (every other week) committee meetings.
  • Serve as a resource for department Leads.

Overview 

The Office of Inclusive Excellence is hiring two Senior Advisor(s) to the Anti-Racism Roadmap (ARR), for current academic year 2024-2025, starting April 1, 2025 through June 30, 2025, then subject to reappointment annually at the discretion of the Dean of the School of Medicine and the Vice Dean for Inclusive Excellence.  This will be a .2 FTE position, which is negotiable.

In this role, you will serve as key advisor on the Anti-Racism Roadmap. Your specific duties shall include:

  • Collaborate with departments, the health system, the main campus and DGSOM leaders (student affairs, faculty affairs, the Cultural North Star) and other strategic initiative leaders to align efforts.

Overview 

UCLA Health seeks a visionary academic and innovation leader to serve as its Assistant Dean for Health AI Innovation and Strategy and Director for the UCLA Center for AI and SMART Health. This unique position offers the opportunity to shape and drive AI vision and strategy for the David Geffen School of Medicine (DGSOM) and ensure translation of innovation in our renowned Health system. This collaborative leader will work with academic leadership, faculty, staff and trainees to harness the power of AI to transform biomedical research, decision and implementation science, and precision health.

Requirements

  • National leader in biomedical AI research, education and implementation.
  • Eligible for an academic appointment preferred at the level of Full Professor. Final academic series, rank and step will be based on candidate’s qualifications and accomplishments.
  • MD, PhD or equivalent advanced degree required.
  • Proven success in research education.
  • Documented experience driving innovation and translation of AI into the clinical domain.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in a complex and matrixed organization.

Overview

The PBM Graduate Program is an interdisciplinary and interdepartmental graduate program (IDP) in the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. It is among the top medical physics graduate training programs in the nation and has been funded by the NIH through training grants for over 45 years, with the current T32 training grant funded by the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB).

The Graduate Program Director, with guidance from a Faculty Graduate Advisor and administrative support from a Student Affairs Officer, oversees all aspects of the graduate program including recruitment, admissions, curriculum, monitoring of student progress, special events (including social events), and financial management. The Director convenes and oversees semi-annual faculty meetings and other activities (Candidates’ weekend, Welcome events, etc.). The Director oversees program evaluation activities including the Academic Senate 8-Year Review and the external CAMPEP accreditation activities, in addition to overseeing all aspects of the NIBIB T32 training grant including selection of candidates for participation, submission of progress reports and communication with the NIBIB, and submission of renewals. The program director also serves as the Home Area Director for the PBM Home Area within GPB, working to coordinate PBM’s activities with other graduate programs. As a faculty member of the PBM program, the candidate is also expected to participate in the educational program by teaching and actively mentoring PBM graduate students. 

Requirements

The successful candidate must possess a PhD or other doctoral degree in medical physics or a closely related discipline and be eligible for a tenured faculty appointment at the rank of associate professor or professor at UCLA. In addition, applicants must have at least five years of full-time postgraduate experience in medical physics, as well as an established research and funding track record that fits with the missions of one or more of the sponsoring departments, and must be a principal investigator who oversees an independent research program supported by extramural funding and who hosts graduate student trainees. Applicants with significant educational leadership experience, such as being a Program Director of a T32 training grant, Vice Chair of Education, Director of a graduate program, or similar, will be preferred.  The faculty appointment will be in the best-suited sponsoring department and secondary appointments are possible.
