Dr. Fred Ramsdell

Fred Ramsdell awarded 2025 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine

Dr. Ramsdell, PhD '87, was awarded the Nobel Prize in October for his research on regulatory T cells. He teamed up with Mary Brunkow, PhD, of the Institute for Systems Biology in Seattle and Shimon Sakaguchi, MD, PhD, of Osaka University in Japan to lay the foundation for a new field of research.

Sanjiv Sam Gambhir

MSTP receives gift in honor of a late molecular imaging pioneer

The family of the late Sanjiv Sam Gambhir, MD ’93, PhD ’90, has donated more than $4 million to the UCLA-Caltech Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) for an endowed chair and fellowship fund. Dr. Gambhir devoted his life to developing technologies that reveal early signs of disease.

Worlds first Human Bladder Transplant

Nima Nassiri, MD ’15, FEL ’23, performs first human bladder transplant

Following years of preparation, the world's first human bladder transplant was performed at UCLA by Dr. Nassiri and Inderbir Gill, M.D., founding executive director of the University of Southern California Institute of Urology, potentially changing lives for those with bladder dysfunction or pain.
