About the Award Recipient

Kymora Scotland, MD, PhD, was honored with the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award. This award, presented by The Arnold P. Gold Foundation, recognizes faculty members who are mentors and exemplars of humanism in the care of patients and families.

Dr. Scotland is an Assistant Professor of Urology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. She is a compassionate clinician and surgeon who treats her patients with dignity, empathy, and respect. Her commitment to humanism extends beyond patient care through her dedication to teaching and mentorship, health equity, and service to underserved communities. She has mentored more than 40 trainees and established programs to support students and residents from underrepresented backgrounds pursuing careers in urology. She also leads community and global education initiatives designed to expand access to medical knowledge and opportunities.

Through her clinical care, mentorship, teaching, and advocacy, Dr. Scotland exemplifies the compassion, humility, and commitment to humanism celebrated by the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award.

About the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award

The Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award is presented by the Arnold P. Gold Foundation, a national organization dedicated to ensuring that compassion, respect, and empathy are at the core of all healthcare interactions.  This award recognizes and honors faculty members who are exemplary in their compassion and sensitivity in the delivery of care to patients and their family members, as well as in their respect for their colleagues. The recipient is nominated and selected by faculty peers.
