Jack in his Corset & Friends
In-Person
Hosted by: Semel Institute, Psychiatry Department, HETSS Research Theme

This unique assemblage of musicians, mostly Semel Institute academics and selected loved ones, has gathered in various combinations to celebrate holidays, the starting or ending of academic years, or just for fun. The group attempts to cover diverse genres from the 60s through the 90s, and special guest Spencer Thornton, of “Stompbox Holiday” fame, performs his Americana originals. In addition to their musical performances, the group has created thousands of scholarly works that have been cited more than 120,000 times.

Jack in his Corset & Friends Band featuring Mary Yaeger (vocals and keyboard), David Miklowitz (guitar vocals), Diana Hereld (vocals and keyboard), Bill Beemer (percussion), Spencer Thornton (guitar, vocals), Susan Bookheimer (vocals, mandolin), and Bob Bilder (bass)

The band-name comes from the Lou Reed/Velvet Underground song “Sweet Jane”, which includes the lyrics: “Standin on a corner, suitcase in my hand… Jack is in his corset, Jane is in her vest… And me, I'm in a rock'n'roll band.”
