Maie A. St. John, MD, PhD, FACS

Maie A. St. John, MD, PhD, FACS, was inducted into the Collegium Oto-Rhino-Laryngologicum Amicitiae Sacrum (CORLAS) at their annual meeting in Nov. 2022. CORLAS is an international scientific honor society for otorhinolaryngologists who have contributed significantly to research in the scientific aspects of the specialty. She is the first clinician in her specialty to be inducted from UCLA.

The CORLAS was established in Groningen, The Netherlands, in 1926. The idea of its founders, C. E. Benjamins and A. P. H. de Kleyn, was to rebuild scientific bonds following World War I. Today, CORLAS aims to unite leading otolaryngologists and scientists from all parts of the world to exchange and increase scientific knowledge. It is the most authoritative international scientific honor society and association of otorhinolaryngologists. The number of members is limited, and membership can only be obtained by invitation. In the United States, there is a maximum of 20 clinical members. Candidates for membership must be proposed by a majority of the members from the appropriate national group. The upper age limit for members is 50 years at the time the candidate is inducted. More information is available on the CORLAS website.

Dr. St. John is Chair of the Department of Head & Neck Surgery, the Thomas C. Calcaterra Chair in Head and Neck Surgery, and Co-Director of the UCLA Head and Neck Cancer Program, Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center.
