About
James Wohlschlegel, PhD, serves as inaugural assistant dean for Research Infrastructure. Reporting to the vice dean for Research, Dr. James Wohlschlegel will collaborate with DGSOM and the UCLA campus to develop and expand critical initiatives for our research community.
Dr. Wohlschlegel is a research scientist and professor in the Department of Biological Chemistry. He is the director of the UCLA Proteome Research Center with expertise in overseeing the operational, administrative, and technical aspects of a core facility. His laboratory research centers on the use of proteomic mass spectrometry to characterize ubiquitin-mediated signaling networks in the context of cell growth and proliferation. His research program is highly collaborative, having worked with more than one hundred labs on campus, and this emphasis on collaborative science is central to his vision for creating a dynamic and interdisciplinary scientific community that supports research efforts across UCLA.
The Assistant Dean for Research Infrastructure will serve as the lead for strategic and operational activities for DGSOM’s Research Cores. This inaugural position is critical for providing strategic advice on equipment, funding opportunities, and other issues to DGSOM leadership by working with partners in DGSOM, other Schools, and Campus to improve the management, utilization, and accessibility of Research Cores.
