UCLA has a long tradition of excellence in developing innovative and effective graduate training programs. Our unique approach to graduate education offers students the flexibility to pursue their interests across a wide range of bioscience PhD programs while receiving individually tailored training in smaller home areas.

Each of our home areas is made up of faculty, students, and postdoctoral researchers with shared scientific interests. These interdisciplinary groups are focused around areas of research excellence, instead of following traditional departmental divisions. This framework exposes students to specialized training while allowing them to pursue educational opportunities beyond any single home area.

Combining deep immersion in a specific field with the ability to explore new horizons creates limitless and unique educational possibilities for our PhD students.

As PhD students at UCLA, we have access to an incredible range of experts in different areas who can be our faculty mentors and serve on our dissertation committees.
