DRUG FREE WORKPLACE

PURPOSE

The purpose of this policy is to set forth guidelines to ensure a drug free workplace at UCLA Health System.

SCOPE

This policy applies to all ACGME‐accredited training programs at UCLA.

POLICY

UCLE GME adheres to the Alcohol and Drug Free Workplace Policy, HS‐7307 for all trainees working at all UCLA Health facilities including the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center, the Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA, the Faculty Practice Group, all ambulatory clinics. For specifics regarding prohibited activities and procedures following violations including supervisor responsibilities, please refer to HS‐7307.

For programs with trainees performing duties at affiliated sites, program leaders should be aware that trainees are subject to the rules and regulations for monitoring and testing at each individual site. Program directors should make their trainees aware of rules and regulations that differ from those set forth by UCLA Health.

In the event a trainee is impaired or suspected to be impaired, the trainee should be referred to the Physician Health Committee by the mechanism outlined in MS‐107. This policy outlines procedures for reporting, drug and alcohol testing, committee review and recommendation procedures, evaluation, monitoring, treatment, and return to work procedures. In the event a trainee is referred to the Physician Health Committee, the Program Director will serve as the “Service Chief” and the Designated Institutional Officer will serve as the “Chief of Staff” as it pertains to MS‐107.
