Continuous Quality Improvement
MD-CQI
MD-CQI Overview
Under the guidance of the Dean's Office, Medical Education Committee (MEC), and in collaboration with the Director for Quality, Compliance and Accreditation, DGSOM continuously engages in ongoing quality improvements of all medical school policies, programs and processes to ensure the achievement of our mission and the effective monitoring of the medical education program’s compliance with accreditation standards.
Why CQI?
It is important to continuously monitor the processes and policies which the medical education program follows in order to support program improvement, a positive outcome during accreditation reviews, as well as meet the LCME requirement for Element 1.1, which states: “A medical school engages in ongoing planning and continuous quality improvement processes that establish short and long-term programmatic goals, result in the achievement of measurable outcomes used to improve programmatic quality, and ensure effective monitoring of the medical education program’s compliance with accreditation standards."
Improving the Student Experience
Students play an active role in helping the medical education program provide them with the tools and resources they need to succeed. Completing evaluations and surveys allows curriculum directors, deans, staff, and program evaluators to continuously review strengths and help identify areas for improvement at DGSOM.
Committee Membership
The MD-CQI Working Group meets monthly with the potential addition of ad-hoc meetings if deemed necessary by the group to address specific issues. The group is tasked with:
- Identify which LCME elements require continued monitoring.
- Define the appropriate timing of element monitoring.
- Review the results of the monitoring
- Determining which individuals/groups should receive the results of the monitoring.
- Determining which individuals/groups should be responsible for taking action.
- Monitor the outcomes of the actions.
All decisions and outcomes of the working groups reviews are shared with the Vice Dean for Education and the Dean of the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.
