Workshop Overview:
This workshop introduces an instructional design approach for planning and building AI-driven healthcare simulations. Participants will develop clear learning objectives aligned with Bloom’s Taxonomy, design branching scenario flows that reflect realistic learner choices, and translate these into structured prompts for large language models (LLMs). The session teaches universal prompt engineering techniques that can be adapted across different LLMs and diverse clinical scenarios. Participants will gain hands-on experience with campus-approved AI software, learning how to evaluate and select the AI tools that best support their simulation’s learning objectives.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Design clear, measurable learning objectives that guide the instructional purpose and performance expectations of AI-based simulations.
- Apply backward design principles to structure AI simulation experiences that align with learning objectives.
- Construct and refine role-playing prompts to produce clinically and instructionally appropriate simulation behaviors.
- Plan and document AI simulation development using project management tools to track prompt versions, model behavior, errors, and revisions.
- Utilize campus approved AI tools to streamline simulation scenario and prompt development.
