Hosted by: Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy Affinity Group Seminar Series

Our fourth lecture of the 2024 season will be on dementia, one of the greatest medical research and public health challenges of our day! The neurodegenerative disorders causing most dementias are highly debilitating, eventually fatal, and (though manageable) essentially incurable. And, with the aging population, cases are presenting worldwide in the millions and millions. All branches of clinical neuroscience continue the intensive, decades-long struggle to meet this challenge. And magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) has a role to play!

Our speaker, Dr. Kejal Kantarci, is a pioneer in and advocate for the use of MRS in the study and clinical management of dementing disorders. She will offer insights from a long and fruitful career of impactful and cutting-edge research on Alzheimer’s (with special emphasis on Alzheimer’s in women), Parkinson’s, Dementia with Lewy Bodies, Mild Cognitive Impairment, Frontotemporal Dementia, Vascular Dementia, and more. Her investigations have entailed not only MRS, but extensive work with positron emission tomography (PET), diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), neuropathology, imaging of cerebral microbleeds, non-brain biomarkers, influence of lifestyle factors,… Dr. Kantarci is superbly qualified to update us on MRS in the dementias. Come benefit from the authoritative perspective of a highly successful radiological investigator of some of the most pressing and important disorders in neurology and clinical neurosciences.
