About the Program
The Turner UCLA Allied Health Internship is implemented by the UCLA Community Engagement Program, in partnership with Bobby and Lauren Turner, to provide learning opportunities for high school students and recent graduates in finding out more about careers in the entry-level, allied health professions. The one-week-long, summer internship program is designed to address workforce shortages and offers career education for students with interest in exploring health disparities. For our students interested in pursuing careers in healthcare, we offer a range of shadowing opportunities from entry-level, clinical, and administrative positions.
We want to highlight rewarding careers in healthcare that do not require traditional four-year college education or medical school. Our goal is to expose students to the many opportunities in healthcare, with hopes that students will be inspired to pursue some of our scholarship opportunities for the short-term allied health training professions.
Through the Allied Healthcare Careers Program and the expansion of the Turner-UCLA Allied Health Internship Program, we hope to inspire many more students to enter the helping professions. Our Allied Healthcare Careers Program has reached close to 90 high schools and organizations to date, with established local partnerships with community-based organizations such as Heart of Los Angeles (HOLA), Kid City Hope Place, and UCLA YouthSource Center. This transformative experience has shaped our students’ futures and will impact countless others as the scholars begin their careers and deliver skilled, compassionate care to patients in and around our community.

Hands-on internships help high school seniors explore healthcare careers
The internship program was created when Lauren and Robert (Bobby) Turner decided to partner with UCLA Health to find a way to expose students to various careers in allied health and create job opportunities for them. "We feel it is a great opportunity for them to get the education and training they need to launch their future careers", says Bobby Turner.

Quality medical care at UCLA Health wouldn't be possible without the thousands of allied health professionals who assist doctors, nurses and patients everyday. To help high school students learn more about the many different career opportunities at healthcare institutions like UCLA Health, the community engagement program hosts internships, career talks and other educational programs in collaboration with UCLA Health Marketing and Talent Acquisition.
