Road to Residency 2024

This annual program allows medical students of all years to learn about residency programs at UCLA, meet residents and faculty of historically underrepresented backgrounds, and engage with leadership from multiple departments. This year's conference will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at the David Geffen School of Medicine.

Why UCLA Residency?

UCLA is committed to training physicians from all backgrounds to be best prepared to care for a multicultural patient population. We strive to create a learning and working environment that is inclusive and supportive of all of our trainees, including those coming from backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in the field of medicine. We believe that together we are stronger and thus focus our efforts on collaborating across our various training programs to build community. The GME Subcommittee on Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion was created as part our Office’s mission to bring together faculty and housestaff at various levels of training to enhance efforts surrounding recruitment, retention and reaching back.

Curious About Our Past Events?

Here is what participants had to say:

What about the program was most valuable?

"Networking lunch, Resident Panel and Interview Preparation. Excellent day all around! To think I was going to hit the interview road without today's prep!! The interview preparation and feedback was invaluable!!"

"The opportunity to talk to program directors during the lunch breakout session was most invaluable to me."

"Hearing about the next step in our training from people currently in those positions who I could directly relate to. As a URM in medicine, I constantly feel the effects of impostor syndrome, but for the first time in a long time, I felt like I truly belonged. I really appreciated the panelist stories regarding URM specific struggles faced in residency."

"I enjoyed the paving the road for specially workshop because it really allowed me to think about my values, passions and strengths and how those all aligned with potential specialties and careers."

"The apparent institutional support for minority residents. Really made me think about where I would be most happy as a resident."

"Everything! From the PD panel to the resident panel, and the workshop on residency applications. I really appreciated this insight."
