What is the Biodesign Innovation Fellowship?
UCLA Health clinicians interested in medical technology innovation and entrepreneurship. Biodesign Discovery Fellows are on the front lines of innovation with a team of like-minded healthcare leaders from medicine, engineering, and business.
Announcing the launch of the UCLA Biodesign Innovation Fellowship, a year-long entrepreneurial opportunity from September 2024 to June 2025 for UCLA Health professionals in medicine, engineering, design, and business. We're bringing together a best-in-class interdisciplinary team to prototype and develop technologies to solve challenging health care needs. Biodesign Discovery Fellows are on the front lines of innovation with a team of like-minded healthcare leaders from medicine, engineering, and business. UCLA Health clinicians interested in medical technology innovation and entrepreneurship are encouraged to apply!
Biodesign Discovery Fellows have the opportunity to:
- Innovate at the frontier of healthcare with leading researchers and clinicians in multiple specialties
- Build a novel medical device/digital solution from ideation through venture formation
- Design novel solutions for today’s most critical medical problems identified through clinical immersion at a world-renowned institution
- Leverage 24/7 access to creative space and equipment to quickly build, test, and learn
- Access mentorship and advice from thought-leaders across the healthcare ecosystem
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in engineering or computer science (MS/PhD), design (MS), business (MBA), medicine (MD) or equivalent
- Industry experience in product / software development, product design or engineering preferred
- Strong creative interest in technology development and proven record of entrepreneurial activities
- Open to prospective and current UCLA Health residents and fellows with the support of their Residency Program Director and Department or Division Chair
- Applications are open for 2024-2025. Applications are considered for prospective and current first year trainees seeking to build the fellowship into their program
