Schizophrenia brain research has been done to death, right? NOT the way this young, dynamic, cutting-edge investigator does it! Using highly original methods combining simultaneous EEG-fMRI and EKG, this work uncovers new physiologic roots and pathways to functional neuropathology in schizophrenia. By using noncanonical hemodynamic response functions, aperiodic EEG signals, and in other ways, it also challenges the BOLD methodological paradigm as currently practiced across human neuroimaging today. And it is all undergirded by sophisticated, deeply conceived and highly synthetic neurotheory.

Dr. Michael Jacob, our speaker, is a clinical psychiatrist specialized in psychoses, a private psychotherapist, an up-and-coming star researcher in electroencephalography and MR imaging working with top mentors, and a first-class generalist—you thought they didn’t exist anymore! He is concerned not only with the brain bases of schizophrenia but also with pervasive practical problems such as metabolic syndrome in psychoses. Come hear some innovative perspectives, supported by rigorous, high-level data.
