POCUS Community
Interdisciplinary collaboration
Our community includes students, residents, and faculty from a range of specialties and subspecialties, united by a shared goal: to expand their POCUS knowledge and clinical skills.
By participating in collaborative lectures, hands-on training, and research projects, this passionate community furthers collective knowledge while also exploring innovative ways to optimize care using POCUS within their respective specialties.

Expanding POCUS knowledge and clinical skills.
Ultrasound Interest Group (USIG)
The Ultrasound Student Interest Group (USIG) provides opportunities for medical students to enhance their core ultrasound education and training.
Training in Medical Education and Practice (TMEP)
This Discovery program in the MS3 year trains selected students to become peer-to-peer educators in both anatomy and POCUS. The nine-month curriculum is co-directed by Drs. Alan Chiem, Cristina Ghiani, and Elena Stark. Each month focuses on a theme (e.g., MSK) that is aligned with the MS1 FoP/SFM schedule.

Students in the program will benefit from training in the clinically relevant anatomy, the corresponding POCUS skills, as well as medical education theory. They will apply their training as small group instructors in the MS1 and MS2 year curriculum. In addition, each TMEP student will have an opportunity to work with their faculty mentor of choice on a scholarly project.
TMEP Highlights
- Training in clinical anatomy and POCUS
- Career exploration
- Peer-to-peer education
- Work closely with faculty over 9 months
- Medical education training
