Alyssa Hoover is from Nashville, TN and graduated from Harding University in 2017 with her bachelor degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology. As an undergraduate, she volunteered as a camp counselor for at-risk youth in New York City, and participated in a summer research experience in Denver investigating ALS. She also studied the arts and humanities for a semester abroad in Italy, which instilled in her a love of travel and culture. After graduating, Alyssa worked in a lab at Vanderbilt University conducting research focused on inflammatory signaling pathways in gynecologic cancers. There, she was able to gain exposure to genetic counseling through shadowing at various clinics, and discovered her passion for the field. While working, she also spent time volunteering as a mentor at a non-profit clinic for women. In her free time, she enjoys trying new recipes and restaurants, doing anything outdoors, and spending time with friends. She is excited to join the inaugural class at UCLA, and is looking forward to engaging with the Los Angeles community!
