Hao Zhang, MD., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physiology in the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. He completed his medical training at Tsinghua University and a cardiology fellowship at Fuwai Hospital (Beijing, China). He was a postdoctoral researcher and instructor with Joe Wu in the Cardiovascular Institute at Stanford. Through a recruitment effort initiated by the Broad Stem Cell Research Center, Hao has a primary appointment in Physiology and membership in the BSCRC and CV Theme. He will be establishing a research program focused on the pathomechanisms and opportunities for therapeutic intervention in cardiac fibrosis. In these pursuits, he developed a multiscale platform to screen for antifibrotic compounds using human IPSC-derived cardiac fibroblasts, established safety in cardiac myocytes, and demonstrated efficacy in 3D-engineered heart tissues and mouse models of heart failure.
