UCLA Campus StatusPrepare
- Obtain a map of all emergency exits, staircases and fire alarm pull stations in your building
- Determine possible escape routes and locations of the nearest building exits.
Respond
- When you hear the fire alarm, evacuate! DO NOT ASSUME IT IS A FALSE ALARM OR A DRILL
- If you are away from campus, check Bruin Safety Online (BSO) and social media (Office of Emergency Management or Environmental Health & Safety Twitter) for emergency notifications
- Check evacuation routes for smoke. If unsafe, take an alternate route
- Authorities may direct you to leave if you are in danger or within the greatest potential path of the fire
- If a voluntary evacuation order is issued for your area or you are directed by authorities to evacuate the area:
- Take only essential items with you
- Follow the designated evacuation routes and expect heavy traffic
- If you are ordered to shelter-in-place and/or NOT to evacuate:
- Follow shelter-in-place procedures
- Monitor status updates/communications through social media and Bruins Safe Online
- When smoke levels are high, do not use anything that burns and adds to indoor air pollution, such as candles, fireplaces and gas stoves
- Monitor air quality reports and health warnings about smoke.
