UCLA Campus StatusPrepare
- Keep a flashlight in your workplace; never use a candle or an open flame to produce light
- Consider marking exit areas, steps and other hazards with glow-in-the-dark stickers
- Establish a communication guide with your department to report any issues internally and with supporting departments, including Facilities Management Trouble Call and Office of Emergency Management.
Respond
- Remain calm and use emergency lighting
- If no emergency lighting is available, proceed cautiously to a lighted area
- If you are in an elevator, remain calm and press the emergency call button or phone
- If the campus has not released communication regarding the outage, submit a service request to Facilities Management (FM), or contact the Trouble Call Desk at (310) 825-9236 with the following information:
- Location (building and room number)
- Best or closest entrance for responders
- Nature and extent of an emergency
- Your name and the number you are calling from
- Turn off all light switches except one (so you know when power is restored)
- Turn off and unplug computers and other equipment sensitive to power spikes and surges
- Turn off coffee pots and other sources that produce heat
- Some rooms are equipped with red light switches that will not go off in the event of a power outage. Keep red switches in the “ON” position
- Do not open refrigerators/freezers unless necessary to maintain their temperature for longer periods. Follow safety guidelines when your refrigerator's power is off
- Do not plug equipment into the red outlets, as they have been designated for existing loads
- Contact Facilities Management (FM) to address accessibility
- Do not use a gas stove for heating or operate generators indoors
- Stand by for instructions from emergency personnel if the power cannot be restored
- Review lab shutdown procedures.
