Introducing the Dr. John Romm Endowed Lecture in Compassionate Care and the Art of Physical Diagnosis
Join us on October 1 for the Inaugural Lecture
To celebrate the life and legacy of her father, Dr. Stephanie Romm Friduss (MD ’87) and Dr. Michael Friduss (RES ’89) have established the Dr. John Romm Endowed Lecture in Compassionate Care and the Art of Physical Diagnosis to bring leading voices in medicine to inspire and educate future generations at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.
Dr. John Romm was an Associate Professor of Medicine at UCLA and an internist/gastroenterologist who practiced medicine for more than 60 years. Known as “a doctor’s doctor,” he was the physician who other physicians chose for their own medical care. He championed the Art of Physical Diagnosis, taught these skills to future physicians, and never stopped searching for answers on behalf of his patients.
This annual lecture will bring an innovative voice in internal medicine, gastroenterology, or bedside medicine to uphold Dr. Romm’s tenet that physical exams and genuine human connection remain core to excellent patient care.
We invite the UCLA community to join us for the inaugural Dr. John Romm Endowed Lecture in Compassionate Care and the Art of Physical Diagnosis on Thursday, October 1, 2026, from 12:00-1:00 PM at Tamkin Auditorium located in the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.
The inaugural lecture will feature Dr. William P. Cope and Dr. William S. Stringer.
