Thomas Rando, MD, PhD honored by the International Society for Stem Cell Research
Thomas Rando, MD, PhD, director of the Eli and Edythe Broad Center of Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research at UCLA, has received the 2023 Achievement Award from the International Society for Stem Cell Research.
The prize recognizes the transformative body of work of an investigator that has had a major impact on the field of stem cell research or regenerative medicine. Rando will present his research on June 17 in Boston during ISSCR 2023, the world’s foremost meeting of global leaders in stem cell science and regenerative medicine.
A renowned neurologist and stem cell biologist, Rando’s research has revealed fundamental properties of stem cell aging, muscle stem cell biology, muscular dystrophies and tissue engineering. He is an elected member of the American Neurological Association, the National Academy of Medicine and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
“I am deeply honored and grateful to receive this award from my valued colleagues at ISSCR,” said Rando, who is also a professor of neurology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and a professor of molecular, cell and developmental biology in the UCLA College. “The recognition by my peers is what makes this so special.”
