Announcing Katherine Julian as Vice Dean for Education at DGSOM
On July 27, 2026, the David Geffen School of Medicine announced the appointment of Katherine Julian, MD, as the Vice Dean for Education, effective October 1, 2026.
Dr. Katherine Julian is a distinguished educator who joins us from the University of California San Francisco, where she served as a Professor of Medicine and Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education. As Associate Dean, she also served as the Designated Institutional Official, overseeing all residency and fellowship programs at UCSF.
A graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, Dr. Julian received her medical degree from the UCSF School of Medicine. She completed her internal medicine residency in the UCSF Primary Care General Internal Medicine Residency and completed a Chief Residency year at Zuckerberg San Francisco General. A member of the UCSF faculty since 2001, Dr. Julian is a practicing primary care general internist in the Division of General Internal Medicine.
She formerly served as the Program Director for the UCSF Primary Care General Internal Medicine Residency Program and the Co-Director for the UCSF Health Professions Education Pathway. She is a member of the UCSF Academy of Medical Educators and has been recognized with the Academic Senate Distinction in Teaching Award and the Excellence and Innovation Award in Graduate Medical Education.
In a recent message sent to all school of medicine employees, Vice Chancellor John Mazziotta and Dean Steven Dubinett shared their appreciation of Kathleen Brown, MD’s outstanding interim leadership and service, as well as their gratitude for the dedication and commitment of the search committee members for their efforts.
