Shayna is from Roseville, CA and graduated from Cornell University in 2021 with a BS in Human Development with Distinction and a minor in Nutrition and Health. As an undergraduate, she worked as a research assistant on studies exploring spatial learning and cognitive development in early childhood at both the Cornell Play and Learning Lab and as a Cornell grant recipient at the UC Davis Center for Mind and Brain’s Infant Cognition Lab. She also supported students on campus as a peer counselor and assisted in training future peer counselors. Shayna led the fundraising efforts for GlobeMed at Cornell, a nonprofit organization that aims to promote global health equity, in order to provide water filtration systems for rural Guatemalan communities. To gain exposure to clinical genetic counseling, Shayna shadowed pediatric genetic counselors at the UC Davis Medical Center. She hopes to expand the accessibility of genetic counseling services to underrepresented communities. In her spare time, Shayna enjoys exploring new places, hiking, stand-up paddleboarding, and spending time with friends!
