Breathing Matters

January 24, 2024

Throughout our lives, we breathe up to a billion times! Breathing is exquisitely controlled starting at birth with our first breath, but when it goes wrong it is life-threatening. Research into what regulates breathing has revolutionized our understanding of this vital process and has uncovered a deep relationship between breathing and emotion. In parallel, breathwork training has emerged as a lifesaving therapy for anxiety, depression, loneliness, and suicide in the United States and around the world.

In our latest symposium in our “Grey Matters” series, our distinguished faculty, Drs. Helen Lavretsky and Jack Feldman, discussed the science of breathing and how we can leverage this knowledge to improve health and well-being.
