Dean's List: A Few Things to Know in May
Acknowledging the achievements of our DGSOM community and our upcoming commencement

The David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA acknowledges the many achievements of all of our faculty and students. We specifically want to recognize the dedication and accomplishments of our graduating medical students who will participate in Commencement on May 30th. This important milestone reflects their persistence and their dedication to the delivery of high quality and compassionate healthcare.
Research and scholarship are central to our mission. On Discovery Scholarship Day, MS3 students presented their projects covering a spectrum of medical inquiry which was supported by strong mentorship. Six Department of Medicine faculty members have been honored by the American Society for Clinical Investigation. The following faculty were elected to the Society: Hrishikesh S. Kulkarni, MD, MS; Folasade May, MD, PhD; Philip O. Scumpia, MD; and Marmar Vaseghi, MD, PhD. In addition, Jonathan D. Herman, MD, PhD, and Jason Hong, MD, PhD, received Young Physician-Scientist Awards. This recognition reflects the impact of the contributions of our physician-scientists to the advancement of medical knowledge and patient care.
Bruin Scholars is a program that supports residents and fellows in their transition to faculty while fostering academic leadership. We congratulate Jamie La Charite, MD, MPH; Kaitlyn Fruin, MD; Brittany Burton, MD, MHS, MAS; Daniela Alarcon, MD, and Frederick Ferguson, MD. These promising Bruin Scholars are making important contributions to academic medicine.
This issue also features national honors earned by faculty and trainees, including prestigious fellowships and society recognitions. These stories reflect the collective strength of our community as well as the impact of our shared commitment. We also want to applaud Carol Bennett, MD, who was honored on Jackie Robinson Day at Dodger Stadium while representing UCLA Health as she threw the ceremonial first pitch!
