From Training to Transformation: Launching a new Public Psychiatry Fellowship

Amidst a national mental health crisis, housing affordability crisis, persistent racial inequities, and growing social needs, there remains a critical shortage of psychiatrists serving in public mental health settings. In this talk, we will describe the development and launch of a new public and community psychiatry fellowship, created through a longstanding partnership between the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (DMH), and the UCLA Department of Psychiatry. We will highlight how this partnership seeks to strengthen the public mental health workforce, develop leaders in public psychiatry, and advance mental health equity.
