Newly Appointed Chair of Urology

Dear Colleagues:

We are writing to announce the appointment of Scott Eggener, MD, as Chair of the Department of Urology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA (DGSOM) and Executive Medical Director for Urology for the UCLA Health System, effective September 15, 2025. 

Dr. Eggener is a nationally recognized urologic oncologist who joins us from the University of Chicago, where he served as the Bruce and Beth White Family Professor of Surgery and Vice Chair of Urology. He brings with him deep expertise in the care of patients with prostate, testicular, and kidney cancers and is the founding director of the University of Chicago High-Risk and Advanced Prostate Cancer Clinic (UCHAP). 

A prolific physician-scientist, Dr. Eggener’s research focuses on prostate and testicular cancer, with particular focus on reducing the overdiagnosis and overtreatment of prostate cancer and an emphasis on clinical trials. His work has led to more than 350 publications in leading journals including JAMA, JNCI, and NEJM, and has been featured in national media outlets such as The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. 

Dr. Eggener is the recipient of numerous honors, including the Society of Urologic Oncology Young Investigator Award and the American Urologic Association Mid-Career Award. He currently serves as Associate Editor at the Journal of Urology and has held editorial roles at several other leading journals. In addition to his editorial work, he has served on multiple cancer guideline panels for the American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Urological Association, and National Comprehensive Cancer Network. 

He is a long-standing executive board member of International Volunteers in Urology, on the Board of Directors for the Society of Urologic Oncology, and has been a visiting professor at more than 20 institutions.
