Places for Prayer and Religious Observance at Main DGSOM Clinical Sites

Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center has an Interfaith Meditation Room/Chapel (Room 1109) available for private prayer and meditation 24 hours a day. Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center has an interfaith Chapel/Meditation Room which is available for private prayer and meditation 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It is located in G-300A on Level A of Merle Norman Pavilion, which is the ground level of the Central Tower. UCLA West Valley Medical Center has an Interfaith Meditation Room/Chapel available for private prayer and meditation 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It is located on the first floor, to the immediate left of the visitor’s booth once you enter. UCLA Medical School Campus – Center for Health Sciences (CHS): There is a Prayer & Meditation Room available at CHS 17-116.

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center has a chapel that is open 24 hours a day, as well as other spaces dedicated for prayer. The chapel is centrally located on the hospital's Plaza Level, between the North and South towers. Students are also welcome to use the gardens or any sitting area for religious observance. Harbor-UCLA Medical Center has a chapel available to all students who would like a quiet and protected space. The hospital chapel serves all faiths and is located on the first floor across from the Gift Shop for patients, families, and visitors. Kaiser Los Angeles has a Meditation Room on the first floor of the hospital, across from the gift shop, by the elevator. This room can be used for anyone who wants to pray. Students can request access to the room from the hospital entrance security. The coordinator can assist students who need more information or accommodations for time for prayer.

Olive View UCLA Medical Center has a chapel that is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for anyone who needs a quiet place for religious observance. VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System has an interfaith Chapel, as well as other rooms dedicated for prayer, available for students. Additional information about Chaplain Services at VA Greater Los Angeles is available at their website.

Ramadan-specific information available from some sites:

RRMC, Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center, and UCLA West Valley Medical Center: During the month of Ramadan, to support the evening’s breaking of the fast, dates and water are provided daily from sundown to 9:00 pm in the Dining Commons at RRUCLA, in the Café Santa Monica at SMUCLA, and in the cafeteria at WVUCLA. In addition, at both RRMC and Santa Monica, there are prayer rugs and privacy screens available for use in their Meditation Room/Chapels. At RRUCLA, the Meditation Room/Chapel is located in room 1109 (on the first floor just inside the front entrance), at SMUCLA in G-300A (on the ground level of the Central Tower), and at WVUCLA on the first floor near the main lobby.

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center: For the observance of Ramadan, there are free sweet dates (the traditional food for breaking one’s fast) available in the Chapel. Weekly Jumu'ah or Islamic Prayer Service Services are held on Fridays, 1:15-1:45 p.m. in the Cedars-Sinai chapel, located on the Plaza Level, between the North and South towers. These live services may also be viewed on Cedars-Sinai TV, Channel 50. There are Muslim prayer rugs, and scarves, as well as Islamic literature (including copies of the Qur'an) available in the chapel. The Qibla (orientation towards Mecca) is marked by a picture. VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System: There are Muslim prayer rugs available. Students can go to the Chaplain's office, located next to the Chapel, to borrow a prayer rug and return it when done. A Muslim group meets in the Chapel for worship every Friday at 1 pm.
