Overview

Vision: Enable health care equity through development of leadership for Latino Health. 

Purpose: By optimizing the leadership ability of Latinx physicians and health professionals, the ALL Institute will empower them to design and lead health equity initiatives that address the social and structural determinants of health contributing to health care disparities by tapping into their lived experiences of these.

Content overview: The CESLAC ALL Institute is a four-month experience (3 days on-site at UCLA, four months online) tailored to each individual to meet the challenges unique to Latinx Leaders, particularly in the health sector. The institute provides substantive information that the health sector is often unaware of, which is critical to formulating a strategic vision for 21st-century America.

Phase 1: Engagement

Phase 2: Self and industry discoveries - In-person three-day sessions - data-driven discussion contributing to self-discovery and opportunities to elevate leadership in health care.

Most Phases and the 1:1 coaching sessions will be conducted virtually. The in-person session will be held on the University of California, Los Angeles campus. 

Executive leadership coaching:
As part of the ALL Institute experience, we provide you with an Executive Leadership Coach to help program concepts become applicable to you in your world. Experienced coaches, that are fueled by their passion and compassion, support changes that clients want to make and help them uncover insights into their leadership to impact society in ways that matter most to them.

FAQ

  • Is it only open to Latino/x/e leaders?
    No, enrollment in this program is open to all. The focus of the ALL Leadership Institute is Latino/x/e leadership and encompasses a broad variety of topics relevant to Latino/x/e leadership, including Latino history, the Latino Epidemiological Paradox, and why Latinx are confused about the US racial narrative, among other topics. 
     
  • Is this program open to other leaders who are not MDs?
    Yes, absolutely, it is open to all individuals who are ready to meet the challenges unique to Latinx Leaders and communities, particularly in the health sector. We welcome health professionals across disciplines, departments, and other areas related to health and medicine. 
     
  • Is there a scholarship available to participate in this program?
    Not this time. We encourage you to work with your employer/institution to determine funding options for this professional development opportunity. 
     
  • Is this a virtual or in-person experience?
    Both, but mostly virtual. There is one three-day onsite meeting at the UCLA campus. (Travel expenses are not included). Please see above for specific details on dates and location.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Cultivate their sense of narrative self by examining their lived experience of the Latinx Double Impostor Syndrome (i.e. being told that one is too Latinx ever to be American, but when in Latinx space, being told one is too American to be an “authentic” Latinx).
  2. Describe why Latinx are confused about the US racial narrative.
  3. Use the Latinx Epidemiological Paradox to create a positive narrative about Latinx interaction with the US healthcare system.
  4. Use the US Latinx Gross Domestic Product to develop a positive narrative about Latinx contributions to the US economy and society.
  5. Create a professional community of deepened and cohesive narrative as diverse Latinx providers.
  6. Identify a personal path to executive-level positions, election to board governance, and appointment to critically impactful boards and commissions.
  7. Play leading roles by using their voice in the construction of a shared narrative for the multicultural, multiracial society of 21st century California and beyond.
